My first two portfolios, since early 2000s failed. I declared my last portfolio a failure when I lost 97% of it. I started a new portfolio on March 1st 2018. Here are the annual returns (March 1st to March 1st - rounded):
March 2018 to March 2019: 409%
March 2019 to March 2020: (57%) - loss
March 2020 to March 2021: 7%
March 2021 to March 2022: 290%
March 2022 to March 2023: 174%
March 2023 to March 2024: 36%
March 2024 to March 2025: 73%
March 1st 2025 to July 31st 2025 (five months): 34.5%
I better manage a portfolio, including taking advantage of volatility to lock in some gains and often keeping a large cash reserve in case I'm wrong. Generally, my risks have been lower, but so have my returns. Also, I've been correct more often predicting direction and trading ranges. I've always been a good stock picker going long, but getting trapped into too many puts has been my big downfall. In the past year, most of my trades have been on the same few stocks, along with sometimes trading puts and short ETFs. Most of my trading is in undervalued stocks and taking advantage of volatility to trade some shares. |
